Answers to Common Questions from Individual Taxpayers (Q&A)

(Q) What Tax Documents Must I Provide to Adkin CPA to Prepare my Annual Tax Returns?

  • (A) We will provide you with a brief survey called a Tax Organizer that will define the types of records and tax documents we will need to prepare and file your Annual Tax Returns. Please notify us in the Organizer if you are expecting multiple records of a given IRS Form (example – 4 W2s, 5 1099s etc.).  Please also let us know if you made back-door ROTH IRA contributions in 2024.  If we handle your monthly accounting for your business in QuickBooks Online (QBO), you do not need to provide business income or expense information in the Tax Organizer.

  • Please notify support@adkincpa.com  once the Tax Organizer is complete and all documents are uploaded to the portal.  Upon receipt, we will review the documents, begin to prepare your personal tax returns, and notify you when draft copies of the returns are ready for your review.

(Q) When Must I Provide I Provide my Tax Documents?

  • (A) To file your returns by the associated tax filing deadline, we ask that you upload pdf copies of your tax documents to the client portal here no later than 30 days prior to the normal tax filing deadline. If you are unable to meet this deadline we may be able to complete a Tax Filing Extension for a nominal fee. This extends the time to file your taxes. It does not extend time to make 2024 tax payments. Another option that may be available is to "rush" the processing of your return for a nominal "rush" fee.

(Q) When Will My Individual Tax Returns be Filed?

  • (A) If you own a business, Individual Tax Returns are filed after your business returns have been filed and accepted. If you do not own a business, then Individual Tax Returns are normally filed by April 15th unless a Tax Filing Extension has been completed. If a Tax Filing Extension is filed and accepted, then Individual Tax Returns are normally due by the Extended Filing Date of October 15.

(Q) When are Tax Filing Extensions Filed?

  • (A) If you own a business and need additional time to file your business tax returns, then a Tax Filing Extension may be completed to extend the time allowed to file your business tax returns. This does not extend time to make 2024 tax payments. Similarly, if individual taxpayers are unable to upload their 2024 tax documents to the the client portal here 30 days prior to the normal tax filing deadline, then a Tax Filing Extension may be filed for a nominal fee.
